You may have read about my need of counseling in my previous post. I managed to find the balls to actually turn myself in and book an appointment. I say find the balls, what I actually mean is I told some girls I wanted to go and then they refused to let me back out of it. I guess that could prove to be a productive way of working in many situations.
So, I’ve had one session so far. I’ve always imagined that counselors would just talk rubbish, make points that were completely obvious and blame everything on your childhood like that bald guy from Spendaholics does. Well, that kind of is what happened, except things make a bit more sense when you’re the one being counseled. Or maybe that’s what they want you to think?
You’d be supprised how much the age of 0-18 months can effect you in later life.
Not to mention the rest of your childhood..

The things you learn as a child, the habbits you pick up, and the feelings which you feel have a massive influence in later life. They sort of, stick around.. as your default feelings in future, similar situations.
So, for example, if your mum left you alot when you were a child, you would of felt abandoned, (you won’t remember feeling it, but you would have).. This strong sence of loss will reoccur later in life when you find yourself developing new relationships with women, or even friends.. etc etc…
So, you see… the reason psychologists refer to childhood alot, is because the things that happen when we are a child, shape and determin our thoughts, feelings and reactions later in life… We just don’t always know why until we re-live experiences as a child to find out why.
I must say, as someone who’s benefited greatly from counselling, it does depend on the type of counselling and whether that type and the person you’re working with suits you and your mental methods.
I’ll talk you through it at Unconvention if you want!
